Day 6: Saturday, June 7th - Paris / Rome

Early Saturday morning, we said "goodbye" to Paris and were off to Italy! We flew out of Orly airport on easyJet airlines and made the short flight over to Rome.

In Rome, we rented an apartment so we could all stay together as a family. There was a little mix up of logistics on how to get the keys to the place, but once that was sorted out, we were in our place! The apartment was bright, spacious, and seemed to be 90% furnished with IKEA products!

After getting settled, we grabbed some lunch from a food shop next door. It was mostly a free-for-all. We ordered a little of everything: eggplant parmasan, lasagna, pizza, stuffed rice balls, and pasta.

After lunch and some relaxing, we headed out to explore Rome. What became the beginning of an Italy staple for our trip, we found our first gelataria. The place came recommended by Rick Steves. Even if we didn't have the book, we knew it was going to be popular since there were so many people in and around the shop. Looking back, I still think it was the best gelato of the trip!

Finishing up the gelato, we walked over to the Trevi fountain. The place was packed with people and we made our way down to the fountain to toss some coins in for good luck.

After the Trevi fountain, we headed over to the Spanish Steps. While we were about to have a seat on the steps, we spotted some roasted chestnuts (for 5 euros a bag!!) to snack on. We brought our 2 bags to the steps and had a seat to people watch.

Sitting at the Spanish Steps gave us a break before we headed on the subway to the train station to buy our tickets to Venice and to Milan. From the bus station, our plan was to catch a bus back to the apartment. More confusion at the train station trying to figure out what bus to take and when it was going to leave, but in the end...we ended up on the right bus (full of American students and a pickpocket that tried to take Dave's wallet. Strike one for Rome in Dave's book.)
On the bus ride home

We ended up back in the apartment area and decided to walk around looking for dinner. The area was absolutely packed and that limited our restaurant options since it was late and there were 7 of us. After a few tries, we found a place and ate a not so great dinner (but with a great antipasta dish...even if it was for like 50 euros or something ridiculous like that!!!)
